Kia Ora my name is Karleen Sutton and I have been given the privilege to undergo my practicum placement at Morrinsville Intermediate in Term 4, 2021. I am currently studying at Wintec, Health & wellbeing specialising in mental health & addiction. I have also obtained my Holistic Life Coach & Mind/Body Practitioner diploma earlier this year through an Australian company called MindBodyFood Institute. I have two children aged six and twelve years old and have lived in Morrinsville for the last 13 years, originally from Taupo.
I have had this deep passion for helping youth for quite some time and have decided now is the time to act upon it. So, you may be asking yourself what exactly is Karleen going to be offering at Morrinsville Intermediate? Great question, I will be available to all students that may find themselves coming up against challenges that they are unsure how to navigate through, this can be anything from stress management, bullying, goal setting, how to deal with negative emotions and turn them into a new/positive way of looking at life and just being someone they can talk to about ANYTHING.
I genuinely believe you need to walk in someone else’s shoes to really understand what they have been through or are currently experiencing, therefore I can hand on heart say I have faced more challenges than one person should, and I am proud to have come out the other side with “real life” knowledge.
My overall goal for my time at Morrinsville Intermediate is to be able to be a support person for students who may just need a little bit extra aroha and guidance with different challenges that could potentially pop up for them.
Access to Karleen’s services will begin on Tuesday 26th October. For students to access one-to-one sessions with either mentor, parental permission will be required. Forms are available through the office or outside the DP office.
