We extend a very warm welcome to all new students and their families and wish you a happy, successful and rewarding association with our school, and wider community.
As a school, we are committed to providing a rich and broad curriculum, in a well-resourced school, to best engage our learners and develop positive relationships. Emerging adolescence is such an important developmental stage; we work collaboratively with the Morrinsville Intermediate School Board to ensure that the design, staffing and learning programmes of the school are ‘best fit’ for emerging adolescents.
We enable and empower our teachers to provide students with a connected curriculum where learning is meaningful, authentic and fun. We recognise the importance of the trust you put in us to ‘get it right’ during your child’s intermediate years and take pride in the fact that our school is a place where our students want to be. We strongly believe that for our students to succeed, they need to have positive self-esteem and be immersed in an environment that acknowledges their efforts and celebrates their successes. Along with this, they need the support of their teachers and family/whānau and a dedicated, caring and supportive staff; positive and productive learning partnerships are highly valued.
Our vision ‘Empowering Learners to Succeed’ (Hei whakamana nga ākonga i te whai ao) is of paramount importance as we support students to take increasing responsibility for their learning, and develop the skills to ‘learn how to learn’. We believe that learning-focused partnerships encompassing students, teachers and family/whānau better enable success. We work hard with our students to ensure they know what they are learning, the purpose for their learning, how to set and monitor goals and how to identify and respond to their next steps through a range of curriculum opportunities. Our Learner Profile, ‘EMPOWERED’ underpins our curriculum as students are equipped with the skills and dispositions for life.
Emerging adolescents enjoy exposure to opportunities available within this school that are broad and reflect a 21st Century learning environment. In this way our students are well prepared to experience success at College and beyond. Coupled with opportunity is competition and this is evident in all we do; individuals are recognised for personal growth, while outstanding achievement is encouraged and celebrated.
We look forward to you joining our school where you will become an important part of our learning community. We ask that you ensure your child/ren attend school regularly to ensure continuity of learning and the establishment of stable friendships. We give you our commitment that we will do our very best to support all students to develop the foundation necessary to ensure a successful transition onto their secondary education.
In summary, Morrinsville Intermediate School is an inclusive school that strives to achieve equity and excellence for all students. We endeavour to ensure our students develop and demonstrate the skills and dispositions of an empowered learner, enabling them to be successful for life. Our school motto reflects all that Morrinsville Intermediate School encourages: Kia U Ki Te Pai – whatever you do, let it be your best.
Kind regards
Jenny Clark
